The short answer
In the Charlotte metro, most legitimate SEO engagements run somewhere between a few hundred dollars a month for a small-town, single-service business and several thousand a month for a competitive Charlotte market like law, HVAC, or roofing. Project-based website-plus-SEO builds typically land in the low-to-mid four figures and up, depending on how many services and cities you need to own.
Anyone quoting you one flat number before seeing your market is guessing — or selling a package that doesn't change based on whether you're a plumber in Taylorsville or a personal injury firm in uptown Charlotte. Those are not the same fight, and they should not be the same price.
What actually drives SEO pricing
Three things move the number more than anything else. First, market competitiveness: ranking for 'roof repair Charlotte' means displacing companies that have spent years and serious money on content and reviews, while 'roof repair Mocksville' can be won quickly with a technically clean site and a tuned Google Business Profile. Second, scope of geography: every additional city you want to rank in needs its own pages, signals, and tracking. Third, the state of your current website — a fast, well-structured site is a foundation; a slow template site is demolition work before construction starts.
The pricing model matters too. Monthly retainers make sense when there's genuine monthly work: content production, link building, tracking, and iteration. They make less sense when the 'work' is an automated report. Ask any agency to itemize what happens in a given month. If the answer is vague, the retainer is the product.
Red flags that you're overpaying
Watch for guaranteed #1 rankings (nobody controls Google), long-term contracts required before any results are shown, reports full of impressions and 'visibility scores' but no calls or ranking positions, and — the big one — an agency that can't or won't touch your website's code. If every technical recommendation turns into 'install this plugin,' you're paying SEO prices for WordPress babysitting.
The inverse is also true: the best value in local SEO is usually front-loaded technical work. Fixing crawl problems, page speed, structured data, and Google Business Profile configuration produces more movement per dollar than any other spend — and it's exactly the work most agencies skip because they can't do it.
How we price it
We audit first, free, and quote from what we find: what's broken, how competitive your specific cities are, and how much ground you want to take. Some clients need a full custom-coded rebuild; some need technical fixes and a Google Business Profile overhaul. You'll get plain numbers tied to specific work — and we don't require a long-term contract to show you the audit.
